During a Facebook Live broadcast yesterday for Highspots.com, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat revealed that he was offered a spot on Ric Flair's last match but he declined the invitation after thinking about it for a week.
Steamboat admitted that he was approached and really thought about the offer but he "recently" declined the opportunity, even though it would have been a great pay day.
"A lot of respect for the guy in the ring. Both of us are night and day when it comes to stuff out of the ring," Steamboat said.
The WWE Hall of Famer, considered to be one of Ric Flair's greatest rivals in the ring, said that he knows this will be a six-man tag match and he can probably do some stuff, but at 69, he doesn't want fans to remember him for that.
"I know when I wrestled Jericho at WrestleMania 25 and then we had the return match at Backlash in a singles," Steamboat said. "I want them to remember me that last time I was in there with Jericho when they chanted, 'You still got it.' I don't want to scar that phrase."
Steamboat added that he doesn't want the fans to think that "maybe he should have stayed retired," so he passed.
You can see his comments below starting at 47:45.
Ric Flair's Last Match will be an event promoted by Jim Crockett Promotions on July 31 during Starrcast. The event will air live on FITE.TV.
