Gunther vs Sheamus for the Intercontinental title today at Clash at the Castle will be the first time that the title will be defended on a major show since WrestleMania 37 in 2021. Yes, that's a total of 16-month absence!

Since April 2021, there have been zero IC title defenses on WWE premium live events, with Apollo Crews vs Big E in a Nigerian Drum Fight being the last one to showcase the title on the big stage.

The Intercontinental title is a title that Sheamus has never won in his career and it's the one left to become a grand slam champion.
