Released WWE star JONAH, formerly known as Bronson Reed, may be being eyed up for a return to the company at some point in the near future.
JONAH was released by WWE on August 6, 2021. He joined IMPACT wrestling on November 20, 2021, and announced his departure from the company on May 6, 2022.
He has also made several appearances for New Japan Pro-Wrestling, including as a participant in the G1 Climax 32. JONAH scored an upset victory over former IWGP World Heavyweight Champion and eventual A Block winner Kazuchika Okada.
Yesterday (October 10), Okada defeated JONAH in a rematch at NJPW Declaration of Power, in the co-main event of the show. Following the match, Jay White successfully defended the IWGP World Heavyweight Championship against Tama Tonga. Okada interrupted White's post-match promo, and challenged him to a match which will be the main event at Wrestle Kingdom 17 on January 4, 2023.
According to Dave Meltzer, speaking on Wrestling Observer Radio:
"When (Okada vs JONAH) was over, they did a handshake, and I don't know... they didn't talk 'finale' and they didn't say he was leaving, but kind of the way that handshake... WWE's gone after JONAH (Bronson Reed) and they want him.
"And even though JONAH was getting a great push here, this was actually the first pinfall loss he's taken in New Japan. The handshake was kind of weird, it was almost like you think maybe he's going back (to WWE). But I don't know if that's the case or not."
Time will tell if JONAH ever makes his return to his former company, and whether he will keep the name JONAH or return to his former gimmick.
