Bobby Fish: If You Have Ten Guys Who Check All The Same Boxes, It's Boring As F*

Bobby Fish is a veteran of pro wrestling and has been in the ring with some of the top names in the sport, all of whom have different styles and expertise.
Fish sticks with a more technical striking style, though he's shown the ability to come off the top rope and be more of a high-flier. However, there's a reason why Fish stays within himself when he's in the ring.
"One of the problems I've noticed over my time in pro wrestling, especially my generation is a lot of guys are able to do a lot of things, so you're able to check a lot of boxes. The difference is, we're not MMA," Fish told Rewind, Recap, Relive when discussing styles in wrestling. "MMA, being competition, you have to check all the boxes or you're going to be exposed for wherever your weakness and holes are. Let's be honest about what pro wrestling is. Those boxes, if every pro wrestler on the card, let's say you have ten guys in the locker room, and all ten guys are capable of doing just about everything. Then you've got ten guys checking all the same boxes, that's boring as fuck. Nobody wants to watch that. The beauty in pro wrestling to me, and what I liked watching growing up, was you have Hulk Hogan, Ric Flair, the Road Warriors, Dusty Rhodes, different body types and athleticism. You have a guy like Ricochet, but if you're a guy like Bam Bam Bigelow's size and you're capable of doing some of those things and you're doing them just because you can, I think you're prostituting our sport."
He continued by saying, "Let's face it, if this were competition, you wouldn't be able to get away with those things, therefore you wouldn't check some of those boxes and you'd stay closer to your lane because that's where you'd find success. Because so many of our variables are controlled, a big guy can get away with trying to be a high flier and vice versa. If this were actual competition, that would not be [audio cuts out]. I'm not saying it has to always be that way and there not times where the exception can be the exception, but I stand by it, and it took me a while to identify this because I've had these thoughts for a while, but if everybody is capable of doing everything, it's fucking boring. Have your style and how your style compliments my style or clashes with my style is what makes our match interesting. If not, everybody is doing everything and at the end of the day, somebody has to win and somebody has to lose. Let's not all go out and paint the canvas black. it doesn't make any sense."
Fish is currently aligned with Adam Cole & Kyle O'Reilly in AEW.
Fish hasn't wrestled since the July 18 episode of AEW Dark: Elevation. He, O'Reilly, and Cole have been battling injuries in recent months. The trio turned on The Young Bucks on the August 3 episode of AEW Dynamite. Fans can find Fish's comments on the turn by clicking here.
