Michael Cole is reported as having had a major role in attempting to sway Renee Paquette to return to WWE prior to her AEW debut.
Renee Paquette is All Elite, but it didn't come without attempted prevention from Michael Cole.
The veteran WWE announcer is reported as having attempted to get the former Renee Young back in WWE, amidst rumours of her arrival in All Elite Wrestling, where she officially landed on 12 October. Dave Meltzer writes as such in this week's Wrestling Observer Newsletter, reporting that Cole was in regular contact with Renee.
"It should be noted that Michael Cole, who handles WWE announcers, regularly checked in with her after she left WWE and of late they had wanted to bring her back for the new season."
WWE unveiled their new announce teams ahead of the Raw, SmackDown, and NXT season premieres, with Michael Cole remaining on Friday Night SmackDown alongside Wade Barrett. Raw, meanwhile, sees Corey Graves now joined by Kevin Patrick, while Vic Joseph and Booker T are handling commentary proceedings in NXT.
Fightful Select reported prior to Renee Paquette's AEW debut that WWE heavily believed she was AEW bound, with SEScoops later adding that she may debut as soon as this week, which she ultimately did. Tony Khan confirmed her signing before she appeared at the top of AEW Dynamite.
As Renee Young, the beloved Canadian broadcaster had previously spent eight years with WWE, during which time she made history as Monday Night Raw's first full-time female broadcaster.
